Microsoft, and most other software companies, limit the time that they offer patches and tech support for their products. If they didn't do this, they could go broke.

Can you elaborate on more of what you want? Anything that lives has a life cycle.
In a program it would be from beginning to end of the program.

Any system goes from being initiated to being retired. That is the lifecycle.
