"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was done originally by the Tokens, but has been redone by other bands such as Jack Grunsky, Charlie Williams & Sound Safari Theater, Mike McAdam, The Hit Crew, Dennis Marcellino, Ac-Rock, Suzi Shelton, Liz Buchanan, Glass Roses, Jay-Ray & Gee, VeggieTales, The Re-Bops, The GrooveBarbers, The Alley Cats, The Kingston Trio, The Mighty Echoes, Buck Howdy, Robert John, and The Nylons.
In my opinion the best version was by Robert John, and you can hear it on Atlantic's Hit Singles 1958-1977, the original release was in the 1980's but it was revived when it was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Ace Ventura Pet Detective in 1994. You have a better chance of finding the Ace Ventura soundtrack than the singles disc.

the Tokens made the pop hit but before them it was sung by the Weavers which in this song featured folk song icon Pete Seeger who also wrote the Byrds hit Turn, Turn, Turn
