You think that there will ever come a day when a third party candidate will ever win the U.S. presidential elections. (during our life span... and I plan on living another 100 years)

I don't believe it is a wasted vote at all. Since so many voters are displeased with the two-party system, I believe it is an excellent idea to have a third party candidate. In fact, third party candidates can actually draw more people out to vote.

It may be a while before a third party candidate can actually win, especially at the national level, but seeing that you're going to live the next 100 years, you just may get to see it!

The most important thing is to vote, no matter who you vote for, your vote is ALWAYS important!!

It depends. George Wallace used the slogan "Send them a message!" and Nixon got the message, bringing the Wallace voters into the Republicans. H. Ross Perot campaigned for a balanced budget and Clinton got that message, too. Third parties are often a large mass of voters leaving one party who haven't yet joined another. If there are enough of them someone in a major party will get the message and try to attract them. But the last new party to win a presidential election was the Republicans when the elected Abraham Lincoln in 1860.

I bet at some point in the next 100 years there will be a 3P candidate that wins. It's already come close to happening twice in the past 100 years

In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Moose Party took 2nd ahead of the Reupbicans

In 1992 Ross Perot took 3rd, but had he not dropped out of the race and then re-entered he would have had a chance at first.

I voted for the green party in California when Grey Davis ran the frst time around. I didn't believe in the green party platform, I just hated the candidate from the other party. Evidently I was not the only one. The green party got around 20 -30 %. It was a wake up call for both parties, that California hates them both. Both party had to admit in reworking their party to the needs of its people. Substantial third party votes giove the Republican and Democrats a message. Third party may not get voted in, but they're still crucial.
