I don't think the NHL will move any team any time soon. The pens have a deal for a new arena

Most of the teams mentioned (Phoenix, Florida, Nashville, Carolina, Columbus) have long term deals in the cities they are in at the moment so they're going nowhere any time soon. Of the other teams mentioned teams mentioned I'm not sure on all their lease statuses for the facilities they are in but certainly a driving factor for keeping a team in a certain place is attendance. Edmonton pretty much fills its' arena and it's a great town in general. There are several teams that have some sad attendance numbers and if that doesn't change and the team can get the right deal they could certainly fly the coop but considering the worst attendance is in Chicago and St Louis and both teams have been in those places for so long I don't even see that changeing anything. In general attendance is pretty good with the average league wide at over 90%.
As for nobody being able to compete with the Buckeyes in Columbus, I live in Columbus and what you say is partially true but the Jackets still fill 90% of the seats on average and when the organization finally gets a solid team together they will fill it even more. Since they came to town 8 new rinks were built Adult and Youth Leagues are thriving. Hockey is here to stay. A winning team will guarantee that, Buckeyes or no buckeyes.
There are alot of factors involved in why a team would move and at this point there are few issues around the league that would cause a team to want to move. Certainly things can change but with the salary cap in place team owners are finding it fairly easy to put a team on the ice and still make a few $$$. When a team isn't making the bucks they will move, simple as that.

milwaukee is a horrible hockey town. the only reason it was close to getting an NHL team back in the 80's and early 90's was because of the Pettit's putting tons of their money into building the Bradley Center (which was suppose to be for an NHL team). they ended up backing out on the 50 million dollar franchise purchase at the time and that was that. Hockey culture around the milwaukee area is scarcely thin outside of the suburban areas that have money. Pittsburgh is a prime example of how a working class baseball/football town laid waste to their hockey team and the same thing would happen in Milwaukee. sad but true. the Milwaukee bucks cant even sell out the BC on a consistent basis.. hockey being an even more marginal sport would be a disaster. this town oddly enough doesnt relate to hockey. the Pens moving would much better suit a city with hockey culture like Quebec, Winnipeg, Hamilton or Halifax. Sidney Crosby and Malkin would sell those towns out every game... it would be a 2 week quest in milwaukee before audiences drop.

Well, the Devils are moving from East Rutherford to Newark next year, but I don't think that's what you meant by the question.
Somebody said the Lightning here. That's preposterous! They average 21,000 a game!
Don't be surprised if the Kings move at some point soon. Ever since Anaheim came into the league, interest in them has dropped off big time.
But historically, the teams who have moved have done so because their arenas were too small to allow them to survive. (Examples: Quebec Nordiques, Winnipeg Jets, Hartford Whalers, the old Colorado Rockies--McNichols is not the Pepsi Center) If the new arenas weren't built in Chicago, Buffalo and Boston, those teams may have been gone by now. Face it, when you need to average 16,000 a game to keep the team viable and your building seats only 15,200 you have a problem. Either you raise your ticket prices to Mars, or you move.

I hope so, and who is the idiot who said he likes them the way they are? And who is the bigger idiot who said the Pens are threatening to move if they don't get a new arena? Lol, wtf have you been? Do you even watch hockey?
Anyways...
It looks to be like this Nashville, Florida, Carolina (if they have any sense, cup or no cup), Anaheim (Cali. doesn't need 3 teams, let alone two so close to one another, and the Kings get dibs for being a "Next 6" team), Columbus (No team can compete in Columbus with the OSU Buckeyes, sorry), hopefully Atlanta.
Odd teams that work: Tampa and Phoenix due to the high northerner transplant population, and Dallas due to the high density of people living in the DFW area.
Great cities to move to: Winnipeg (should have never left), Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, Hamilton (Ontario), Milwaukee, Hartford (Wolfpack AHL games sell out) , and could a team in Alaska work? (I really don't know on that one).

Wow someone is what like 2-3 months behind the time. The Pens already HAVE a new Arena deal. I'm thinking that Nashville or Atlanta will probably be moving. I don't see the Coyotes moving too soon, sure they don't have fans BUT they have "The Great One" running things and appearently he is happy with hockey in the desert. It is really hard to say who is going to move if anyone. If you went by record or fan support the Kings would have moved from L.A. by now.

My slightly educated guess would be the following teams ranked likeliest at the top.
1. Phoenix Coyotes
2. Florida Panthers
3. Edmonton Oilers
4. New York Islanders

The Penguins will stay in Pittsburgh, but Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Houston are cities all looking for teams.

Yes. Teams that have a high chance of being moved include the Panthers or Lightnings, Columbus, Anaheim, and Phoenix. I hope they will move Phoenix back to Winnipeg.

a few teams are close to running out their contracts-- the penguins were going to go to either kansas city or las vegas if they couldnt have their terms met by pittsburgh...but unlike senatorsfan who was the 2nd post - I know that Lemieux and the rest of the city agreed on the teams terms and they arent going any where
