Cheerleading gives the team a common goal...
either
a) sleep with the entire squad in one season
or
b) they share a common hatred for all the spirited annoying yelling and screaming and giggling and cheering while they are trying to play a game

It doesn't. I would think that one would want the athletes to keep their eyes on the ball, not on cheerleaders
