I am looking to rent a place in either Concord or Pleasant Hill, close to the BART station. Am hearing that Concord has some not no nice neighborhoods. I have toured some upscale apartments and want to know if Concord is family friendly? Or is Pleasant Hill a better bet in terms of safety?

Well, how close to the BART station do you want to be?

Pleasant Hill's BART location isn't too bad, but you are close to the freeway.

You may want to consider the Poet's Corner location of PH (stay away from Monument Blvd. OK?)

Concord's BART location is a more downtown feel.

I would look into Walnut Creek and being close to that BART station.

PH has two large apartment complexes, Park Regency and Villa Montagno, but they may not be to your liking.

There is also a series of complexes near Las Juntas and Cherry lane, but, again, perhaps not your cup of tea

walnut creek, concord and pleasant hill are all about the same. Though Concord, the larges of the three has pockets of not so nice areas. I prefer pleasant hill to concord just because it is closer to the freeway and multiple bart stations. they are both family friendly areas. schools in the whole are all pretty good.

In concord the only area I don't like is the one right near the concord BART station and along monument blvd. keep in mind though, concord is a REALLY BIG TOWN. parts of it are up to 4 miles from the freeway. and you will have more options there.

Pleasant Hill is much better then Concord. The area west of 680 in Walnut Creek is nice too, with good schools. There are a few other nice area in WC, but harder to describe.

If you are looking for nice places for a family near BART you whould also look at Orinda, it is a great community.
