Nope. It's for angry women of any sexual orientation.

Love her! I enjoy her music, but I enjoy her lyrics more than anything else. To me, the music is incidental. It's what she's saying that has deeply impacted me in my life. She's pretty, yeah. She's versatile in her look. She can go from geeky and grungy to gorgeous and glamorous. How's THAT for alliteration? I know lots of people who don't like her (my boyfriend) and calling her things like "angry, pissed off lesbian" (drunk guy in a bar who then puked in the pitcher of beer) and "whiny Canadian b*tch" (some website). But to each their own. Her lyrics mean a great deal to me personally. I also like her because she's grown up. She was angsty in her first commercially successful CD, but she knew she wasn't going to make a career out of being pissed off all the time. You can actually track her maturity CD by CD. Can you tell I'm a fan? EDIT: Oh, and I LOVED her parody of Fergie's bullsh*t song, "My Humps." Now THAT'S a talentless hack.

If you're suggesting that her fans are mostly lesbians, then I don't know because I don't hang out with lesbians anymore. :-) I wouldn't think so, but who knows? Lots of music is considered 'lesbian' music or 'gay' music and it doesn't have anything to do with if the singer is gay or not. Some singers/bands songs just find their own niche in certain types of groups.

Well, I wasn't going to respond to this because I figure music is music, but bruce aurora, do you even know who Billie Holiday was? The first lady of jazz? Lady Day? One of the greatest jazz vocalists of all time, who made her audience feel it? She sang all those great lesbian classics like "My Man," "Fine and Mellow" (also about her man), "Lover Man" (I don't know who that was about--real head scratcher), and another perfectly gay anti-rascism song called "Strange Fruit," about the lynchings that were going on in the South during the 1930's. Kind of on the heartwrenching side, if you know what I mean. She was no lesbian, but, even if she had been, people would only have noticed how great she was, even back then. Too bad so many don't notice today; of course, they are pretty busy listening to complete crap, so it's understandable.
Without Billie paving the way, Alannis, Melissa whoever and k.d. lang would just be faces in a crowd, and nobody would be asking stupid and irrelevant questions about their listeners' sexuality, or mindlessly trying to assign one to their music. Good, bad, and in between, music is for everyone.

No its not, and her jagged little pill album was pretty much a hate album directed at Dave Goulier (uncle joey on full house) with whom Alanis had a long relationship with. I feel like I shouldn't know that.

Definately not. I believe she's even married to some actor. I forget his name. But regardless, I just think that a lot of her former performances have been supporting feminists. But being a feminist does not mean you are a lesbian. Plus I didn't know that there was such a genre as "lesbian music". I would definately like to hear what that sounds like.
