One night stands, as perpetrated by both men and women, are based on seeing the other sex as a disposable pleasure, rather than a meaningful possibility.

Yes I do think it is selfish. I do not think people can completely escape being selfish, and I think that being selfish is at times needed, but in this case I do not think that being selfish is OK. With a cost benefit analysis you will likely find that the good that comes from it is a night of fun, while the bad may go on for pages.

Of course it's selfish and there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're honest about your expectations. Most things I do are mostly selfish when you get down to it. I could claim that I work for the patient's well-being and the betterment of society or some nonsense like that. The reality is that I like feeling needed, getting out of the house, getting a regular paycheck, being independent.

It's a sad truth: people of all beliefs and non-beliefs are capable of being jerks. Obviously I wasn't there, so I don't know what he actually said in the classroom or if he intended to be insulting or not. That said, you should not have been made to subject yourself to ridicule by your teacher. There's already quite enough of that going on socially by peers in the student environment. If you decide to pursue this, either by direct confrontation or by taking it up with an administrator, do so with calm reasoning. Ask this question: "Would it have been good professional conduct to speak this way to the class about Jews, Muslims, or Hindus? Would it have been professional conduct to spend the class period mocking Judaism and then ask all the Jews to stand up?" Then politely but firmly ask for an apology to the class. Your teacher is entitled to his personal opinion about religion. He may even be required by the curriculum to discuss the role of religion in a society. He is not entitled to humiliate you. I'm sorry this happened to you. I promise, not all atheists are like that. ~A Freethinker

It is very selfish for the guy. He's using the woman. The woman might actually think they're starting a relationship and then never see him again. Happened to me all the time. Then I learned how to say no by going to CARVA groups. Also my Missionaries taught me that it was wrong and since then I feel alot better.
I just needed to know that someone really cared to put their foot down and tell me that I needed to STOP IT! And now I feel like I'm more inline with Heavenly Father's plan.

I don't think it's selfish if both people agree to it but I wouldn't do it because I don't want to have sex with a random stranger who has slept with a ton of men in her past and has God knows how many different species of viruses floating around down there,

Everything a person does is essentially a selfish act, and I think being so selfish is okay. One person was acting selfishly, the other acting maybe less selfishly but just as recklessly. They took a gamble with their recklessness.

I think it is fine if that is what is agreed upon. It would only be selfish if one person acted like it would be more and than never talked to you again.

I personally would never have or even thought about having a one night stand. But if the act is between two consentual adults who use appropriate protection i cant knock them. That is ultimately their decision.

It is not selfish as long as the other person does not want to see you again either.
