"Interrogations might not be exercises in gentle persuasion, but neither are they excuses for physical beatings, suffocations, sexual humiliation, or any of the other abuses that some U.S. guards and interrogators have inflicted upon detainees in American custody. Pain will make people talk, although we may question the quality of the information thus obtained." ----excerpted from "Unconquerable Nation"

You need to realize a few little things. 1. 99% of the time, the POW's that we take in would rather die than do anything that would be considered a disgrace to their leaders and their nation. We are not interrogating your local thugs who gang bang and shoot up 7-11's. These people have been brainwashed and trained to never talk. So, how do you get them to talk? I'll quote Malcolm X, "By any means necessary."
2. Any info is better than no info.
3. We should have the right to treat our POW's just like they treat theirs. Morally, does it make it right? No. But always remember this, our POW's always end up with their heads still attached. If they think that sexual humiliation is torture, than something is seriously wrong with them.

First off, the U.S. has done pretty well in treating most prisoners during wartime. The situations which you are referencing stopped years ago and were very shameful; but given how other countries interrogate prisoners, we are still in the top 20% of modern countries.

What I object to is the fact we have held so many of these suspected terrorists without trials for them. The U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to a speedy trial, not just for American citizens, but for everybody.

yes as you hinted, interrogations using torture get results but not necessarily the truth. If I were tortured I'd be talking without end just to get it to stop. The worst that can happen is death or was death until now a fate worse than death is to live in pain and agony for the rest of your life without being executed many would rather die.

I agree fully with the quote. Only I go further and say that these acts are not ethical, not just unreliable. The quote failed to mention anything about how the tactics relate to morality.

You are correct in your assumption . Pain will bring forth any required words, wether true or fales. That is why the world puts little or any faith in taped prisoner confessions.
