There are over 100 different kinds of arthritis. Medications which relieve some forms have no effect on others.

For example, glucosamine chondroitin has been helpful to many for easing the pain of Osteo Arthritis, but will do no good for those with Rheumatoid or Psoriatic Arthritis.

The best relief I've found for my Rheumatoid is a healthy diet, consisting of raw foods, mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I also supplement with organic coconut oil and raw garlic by the tons!

Actually, you've come to the right person in asking this question, and the reason for that is because I too have arthritis, and my doctor has advised me to take specific things which can be purchased at your local health food store. They are as follows:- Glucosamine Sulphate + ChondroitinSulphate combined (500 mg - take 1 tablet 3 times per day)
- MSM(1000 mg - take 1 tablet 3 times per day)
- Celedren(250mg I think that is what the strength is - 1 capsule 3 times per day)
-Omega 3(1 capsule 3 times per day)
- There is a cream by the company Jamieson. It contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Vitamin E. Rub it on your aching joint the 1st thing in the morning. For me that is all that is necessary. However if it still bothers you, then use it when necessary. One of the best benefits of this cream is, forget the fact that it works, but as well there is no obscene odor which would turn you off from using it.

I first got fairly serious symptoms of Arthritis at the ripe old age of 17! That was 41 years ago and I have had Arthritis since then. Fortunately, my hero growing was was Edgar Cayce. I have never trusted my health to drugs of any kind, as they cause much more serious side effects than they "cure", if they have ever cured anything. So, I have used Edgar Cayce's advice for as long as I have known about him; Cold pressed Peanut, preferably organic, slowly and thoughtfully massaged on the affected areas whenever symptoms flare up, and a few cherries, once or twice a day eaten with the same measure of thoughtfulness as in the rubbing on of the Peanut Oil. I favor dried and unsulfered, unsweetened tart Montmorency cherries. It seems to lack understanding as to why this particular combination works, but it does. I have been an active and working contractor forever, it seems, (more than 35 years now) and my Arthritis has never stopped me, and only rarely causes me any real distress unless I slip up and eat too many acid-producing foods.... Diet is also of MAJOR importance in controlling symptoms of Arthritis. Red Meats, Tomatoes, Eggplant, Wheat, Hot Peppers, etc. are definite No Nos. Give Edgar Cayce's extremely accurate advice a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

A number of supplements can be beneficial for arthritis, both to relieve inflammation and pain and to help rebuild joint cartilage.

1.Cartilage-building compound glucosamine can be one of the most effective remedies for the long-term relief of osteoarthritis pain.

2.MSM, another substance that appears to slow cartilage degeneration, or with the trace mineral boron.

3.If the combination of glucosamine and MSM does not provide relief after six to eight weeks, try replacing MSM with one of the following supplements: niacinamide, a form of vitamin B that is a particularly effective reliever of knee pain, or a mixture containing chondroitin sulfate, another cartilage-building compound.

Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are natural ways to treat arthritis. It works for many people and is supposed to help cartilage formation, repair it and give elasticity to it.

there is a recent health news article that said chondroitin does not work;

anyway, try to get your hands on cetyl myristoleate; it works wonders; google for it for more information
