I am a single father of 4 Children and work 2 jobs but can't seem to get caught up after my divorce. Also my mother who lives with me is disabled and I take care of her as well. Any place that I find that does offer assistance rejects me because I work 2 jobs. It seems to me that all these places would rather help someone that doesn't try to succeed in life... well I am trying and I will do it. I just could use some help to get myself ahead. Thanks for any answers or comments....Michael

Much of this depends on what state you're in. different places have different organizations and different names. Section 8 provides housing assistance but this takes a while from what I understand. Also, places like the salvation army and catholic charities will sometimes help with a utility if you have a final notice. Contact your local welfare office, they may have a list of non profit organizations that can help you. Finally, with your mother being disabled, she may be eligible for ssi. If she is approved, she'll get a monthly check plus her medical should cover an in-home care taker for when you're not home.

BTW Michael, all that you're doing is commendable.

Go to a Consumer Credit Counseling Service. What they do is get the companies you owe to stop charging interest. Then they take all of your bills and total them They figure out just how much you can pay on your bills. They divide that much by all of the bills that you owe, and distribute that to the companies. Because they are handling it, and the companies are sure of getting a payment every month, the companies agree to accepting the amt. they offer. The good part is that you will not have to pay interest. That is what grows so quickly on credit card and loans. A bankruptcy attorney can refer you to an agency to help you if you are unable to locate one on your own.
