Concentrated sulphuric acid is a chemical with a great liking for water, or the elements of water. It takes hydrogen and oxygen out of sugar, leaving a black mass of carbon.

C12H22O11 ----------> 12C + 11H2O

It also attacks flesh, causing severe damage.

McGyver did this in the first episode. He took some chocolate bars and smashed them onto a cracked tank of sulfuric acid and it turned black, sealing the tank and saving the city from total destruction.
