Concentrated sulphuric acid is a chemical with a great liking for water, or the elements of water. It takes hydrogen and oxygen out of sugar, leaving a black mass of carbon.
C12H22O11 ----------> 12C + 11H2O
It also attacks flesh, causing severe damage.

McGyver did this in the first episode. He took some chocolate bars and smashed them onto a cracked tank of sulfuric acid and it turned black, sealing the tank and saving the city from total destruction.

for the period of this reaction it acts as a catalyst. Acetic acid is ethanoic acid (carboxylic acid)..this plus the alcohol wil produce the ester the sulfuric acid merely accelerates the reaction by making use of reducing the activation skill.
