This is a question for the people that saw "Super Size Me". You remember when that guy put some Mcdonalds frys in a jar and they had been in there for more then a month and still had not even got a spot of mold. Why did they last so long and what do they put in them!?!? I would be more then happy if someone could tell me why the frys lasted so long.

I suspect the salt. It dehydrates and protects. That is how pioneers and explorers preserved meats and vegetables.

Not a big mystery.

there are two reasons. one is he was trying to prove the point that they put lots of preservatives on the fries. but here is some thing that THEY WONT TELL YOU!!!
mold comes from bacteria (duh) and they cook the fries in hot oil in order to remove that bacteria. if they didn't you would get sick. now while the fries are in the open bacteria can get back on them. but if you seal them in a jar away from the bacteria then guess what none will grow.
and there is limited oxygen for the mold to grow and conditions in the jar may have other problems.
another thing THEY WONT TELL YOU!!! most of the "mold" that you see is actually a fungus and in order for that fungus to grow it has to have spores from and existing fungus or mold land on the fries. if the fries are sealed away from the spores and if there are not spores in it already then they wont grow.
so bottom line is this in order for anything to grow on the fries conditions have to be right for said growth. they sealed up the fries and made those conditions not right in order to make you think that the fries are bad. if you were to leave them out them they would have grown stuff just the same as any thing else.
if you want to prove what i am saying then just eat in your car or on the couch and then a week or so later look for that fry you dropped. guess what? it will have mold on it...imagine that

I think it's because there is nothing nutritional in McDonald's fries therefore not even mold will grow on/in them. Kind of like white bread versus wheat bread or any grain bread. White bread can sit on your counter for a week and still be edible not so with grain bread. It makes total sense to me.

I saw that movie too - and I haven't eaten from that place since. I think the fries lasted that long because of all the salt they put on them. Salt is a preservative!

It's because of the production of them-there's "freshness" chemicals added, making them last a lot longer in storage. Also after you fry something, it doesn't have a lot of moisture left in it, so it'd be hard for mold to grow.

The preservatives, and that it was in a closed jar so mold couldn't grow, it needs air.

It depends on how corrupt the manager is, and how good of friends you are. If they get audited then that is trouble for the manager. Cause Sales, and food orders have to match stock, with a certain amount of scrap (stuff thrown away)

I think he was trying to demonstrate how Mcdonalds Fries dont dissolve in your body after consuming them.
