Who cares if it's April. If the tables were turned, the Yankee fans would be rubbing it in our faces. That is what makes the rivalry sweet. Stop being a bunch of winebags and take it. We took it when you swept us five games against our triple A pitching staff too last year. Suck it up!

4 jacks in a row!!! This is not a fluke. I totally think the Yanks can not bounce back from this. Even if everyone in the lineup was hitting, there's noooooo way the Yanks can win without pitching. It just goes to show that you have to be a complete team to win. Defense and offense wins games. I'm a Sox fan and I've never liked the Yankees at all. Seeing these games over this weekend was awesome. I can't wait for next week. Just about any team with a good pitching staff could own the Yankees right now but it's sweeter when the Sox do it. I see a battle between the O's and Sox for the pennant. Even when the Yanks where up the Sox came tied and then some. The Yanks need to make some moves before the summer stretch or else. I'm counting them out right now. By the way, The Yanks pitching staff is going up against a very good offensive team in the Devil Rays starting tomorrow. Devil Rays are as bad the Yanks in pitching but the young batting lineup can go toe to toe with them. The only thing I can see going good for the Yanks is A-Rod will continue to have a good season, save their butts a couple times and get the heck out of NYC. Can you see how the tables have turned??? Everyone hated him and now he's saving them by coming up clutch (except against the Red Sox). I usually don't make predictions on baseball but I can tell now that the Sox are poised take down the Evil Empire and the rest of the league.

I don't want to trivialize the last three games between these two teams because all games count the same whether they occur in either April or late September, but the facts have already been brought up by previous answerers of this question. The Yankees pitching staff is totally depleted, and a couple of their regular everyday players are gone from the lineup for the time being.
On the Red Sox side, tonight was really the first time that Manny Ramirez has shown his capabilities this year and it was interesting to see four home runs in a row, but the season is long, and it is just getting a good start.
A baseball team's record can be broken down into thirds: It is pretty much guaranteed that any team, regardless of its skills, is going to win about a third of its games whether it deserves to do so or not. That same team is going to lose a third of their games whether they are simply defeated by superior play or lose them outright due to their mistakes / failures. The difference between a successful team and an also ran, then, is what it does with that last third of the games. If it wins a majority of those, it is sniffing post season play. If not, well....it's time to wait for spring training next March.
I am going to go out on a limb here and tell both the Yankee fans as well as the Red Sox fans that though these three games were encouraging for the Boston fans and sort of discouraging for the Yankees, all they are, in reality, are three games out of 162. They can beat each other's skulls in, but you will notice that which ever is the most successful against the other teams in their division as well as the non-contending teams (like a rebuilding Royals team, for example) from which that last third of their games is comprised will determine their ultimate success or failure when time for the playoffs comes around.
Having said that, it is definitely incumbent upon the Yankees to establish an more consistently effective and healthy rotation in order to be successful. Now that A-Rod has begun to relax offensively, I expect them to score over 1,000 runs this year, so offense will not be their problem. They simply need to get everyone healthy, utilize their staff wisely by allowing pitchers to continue if they are going well instead of dipping into the bullpen at a certain pitchcount, and make sure they take care of business against the lower division clubs while at least playing .500 ball against the top teams in the league.
The Red Sox will do fine if they continue to back up their excellent starting pitching with decent defense and some offensive consistency - it's that simple.
Once again, though this early series is not a true test of their comparative strengths, it is still a good barometer to show the teams where their strengths and weaknesses lie. The Yankees learned that they desperately need their starting pitching staff healthy and effective, and the Red Sox need consistent hitting. Whoever meets their needs the best wins. It's really a simple game when it comes down to it, isn't it? :-)

it was definately a good weekend for the sox but it is only the first series of the season. there's no reason they shouldn't sweep again next weekend though, since the yankee pitching staff is already depleted. another 2 out of 3 in may, and lester should be back as the sox #5 starter by the june series. at that point the sox will have a superior pitching staff, even with a healthy yankee rotation. most people go on and on about the yankees having the best lineup in baseball, but i see way too many washed up players stepping into the batters box. posada, jeter, mienkiewicz, damon and giambi are all players on the decline. they're still good players, but nowhere near the caliber they were. with the twins, tigers, indians (could throw in the whitesox as well) all playing good baseball, the wildcard is almost undoubtably coming from the central division. the yanks will be lucky to still be 3rd in the east by seasons end.

Total ownage would mean the Yankees could not beat the BoSox at all...If I remember correctly the Yankees swept the Red Sox for 5 games last september.....The Yankees are old and hurt and really have not played good at all this season. Talk to me in September after the Yanks make some moves and get hot....Now I am from L.A. and not a die-hard Yanks fan, but this happens every season.

I wouldn't call sweeping them in April as total ownage. They played well against a depleted Yankess staff, but their pitching wasn't all that much better. Dice-K gave 6 runs and Schilling got saved when the rallied against Rivera. I think the Sox have the better team this year, but one series doesn't have too much bearing on the entire season most of the time. I'm a Sox fan, but despite the sweep I wasn't all that impressed with the series this weekend. I don't think the Yankees having all there starters would of made a huge difference. Pavano is worn out and will be lucky to win 8 games this year. Mussina is still good but his best days are behind him and Wang is risky because he pitches to contact way too much. They will better when those three get back, but don't count on them giving you a staff thats superior to the Sox, or even the Jays. You'll have to outslug everyone all season if you want any chance at winning.

Frankie, you're a bigger idiot than the guy who asked this question.
I know you Boston people have a crappy memory that only goes back to 2004, but the Yankees always look like this before the All-Star game. Trust me, by the end of the year you guys will be doing the same thing you always do... cheering on the Patriots, cause the Red Sox suck.

As a Sox fan I am happy but it is only 3 games and we play them 15 more times plus another 145 games overall. Take it easy.

All excuses aside, it was nice to see the Red Sox sweep the Yankees. I enjoyed the homerun derby too. Go Red Sox! Yankee fans have some cheese with your wine. :)

Hmm you got lucky against Rivera, and smacked around a couple of minor league starters, I'm really not impressed. Yeah the Sox hit 4 consecutive homers tonight wow, against a pitcher who never pitched above AA, really not impressive. Let's see what happens when the Yankees have a real pitching staff.
