The concept of the "just war" was invented by St Augustine of Hippo in the 5th century. When Christianity was the state religion of an imperial power, there had to be some justification for belting the bejesus out of random savages, regardless of what the Bible says.

Self defence was never forbidden by the Christian Church (catolic, ortodox, protestant and any major forms). Christianity isn't so peaceful, anyway.

Tho shalt not kill(commit murder with malice), has never included war, or self defence. And saying otherwise is foolish religious baiting. Being spiritual, doesn't mean we have to be martered victims to every criminal on the street.

When they stopped reading the bible.
"Turn the other cheek." "go the Extra mile" "give him your cloak also"
what happened to those? And when did they stop teaching the sermon on the mount in bible school?
