Based on my experience, I've withdrawn and taken the same class a different semester... The "W" stays.
I've also failed a class and have done "grade replacement", the original "F" remains as well.
I believe it stays there so there will be a permanent record of what you did each semester, whether you completed the coursework or not.

I have gotten a few Ws because jobs I had insisted I quit college or get fired. The college told me the W never comes off the transcript, but when you retake the class it shows you are able to pass the class. It doesn't affect your academic record, but you have to pass a certain number of classes to prove to the college you are serious about finishing college. They put you on a list that shows on the transcript until you have proved you can earn your way off. The school will tell you the name of that, which I suddenly cannot remember, and how long you are on it, etc.
You'll do fine.

The W means Withdraw...
It stays in your record

be careful, if u have to many Ws.... the univeristies would not like that.

Choose classes carefully and drop the class if needed before the Drop without W period

Depending on the college, you might be able to get rid of it by retaking the class, but I don't know if that's true where you are. (Heck, I don't even know if that's true where I am, it's never come up)

Regardless of what anyone here tells you, go talk to an adviser at your college.
