we are decended, both animals and humans, from a common lineage; essentially the common ancestor of us all looked a bit like a frog: so amphibia, reptiles, mammals all have similar facial architecture: a head with a face below it and two eyes a nose and mouth. Even more distant relations have a similar plan: fish and birds

Absolutely. The more human-like the animals look, the more we want to keep them and take care of them. Especially baby animals with rounded faces and big eyes. Every time a baby mammal shows up on a video clip or website, the girls in my high school classroom respond, "Awwwwwww." We have a discussion about how that's a trait that makes people want to take care of babies, so it has survival value. No wonder we do that. I love kittens, myself.

Of course. All mammals skeletal structures are versions of the same frame. Face structure is no exception. Look at teeth and jaws, the cartlidge of the nose, the lips and gums. Eyes are different but specialized for either 3-D (jumping or catching prey) or peripheral vision (spotting a predator in your area).
