the reason we ditched was because he took a route that was completley out of the way...it should have been a $45 ride and it ended up being $100 because of the route he took. I would have paid half but only had a credit card so my friend and I took off and went inside my apartment. He came knocking on the door and then came with the police but of course we were scared and didn't answer...it's the next day today and he doesn't have any info. about us. Can he still come after us or what is going to happen if anything?

It all sounds pretty juvenile to me.
Time to grow up & take responsibility for your actions.

Well, the taxi was trying to rip you off. Never go in a cab without cash and only tell him you have the amount that it should cost for the ride. If they try to rip you off tell him that's all you have and if he agrees to take the money that is it. If You paid you don't have to worry about it. If you think the driver does not know the route you do not have to get in. Well if you feel really guilty about not paying if he comes around again pay the $45 dollars cash and apologize for what happened and tell him if he had waited you would have paid, but you only had a credit card and you were afraid of going over the limit. Tell him he should have taken a different route he could have gotten there faster and you would not have to worry about going over your limit. If he does not come by again I would just wait and see. He may not come after you but if he does, Say you wanted to do something about it, but you did not have the drivers information to get a hold of him. I hope this helps.

I cannot tell you what is "going" to happen, but I can tell you what should happen. You should call the cab company and pay the fare via credit card over the phone.

Why?

Just because the cab driver took a route that you thought was unacceptable, does not mean that you aren't legally liable for paying for the service.

After all, you obviously were unable to provide yourself with vehicular transportation, therefore you had to rely on the services of someone else. By not paying him, you are -- in effect -- stealing money from the cab company (at least from a legal stand point. Philosophically is a different story). And it would not be that difficult to find out your name if he knows your address.

I would just pay for it so that no legal recourse could occur, and then I would register a complaint with the cab company, and let them know that you will no longer be doing business with the company in the future.

Just send the cab company a check with half of the amount and explain to them why you felt you we're getting ripped off and, tell them if they try to pursue you in this matter for any more you will sue them. The pick up point and drop off point are recorded, so it's not hard to figure the shortest route on a map, if the cabby doesn't have a good explanation for going the long way around that is theft on his part. You would win.

He will file a theft report with the police listing the address where he picked you up and the address where he dropped you. The Police will gain a description of the passengers and at some point in the next day or two they will arrive at your doorstep with a warrant.

When they compare your faces with the descriptions you will most likely be taken in to appear in a lineup. During this if he identifies you, you will then face indictment from the local DA for theft of services and possibly fraud.

I would call the taxi company, tell them your complaint and offer to settle with them. This is better than the alternative which will remain on your criminal record for life. Use your heads before you're in over your heads.

Tell the police what happened because he does know where you live. Let them know he purposely took a route that costs more and you know of another route that was more in your price range and are willing to pay what it should have cost, which is half the original amount. By the way, how did he find out what appartment you live in?

I don't know what city your from,is this taxi cab driver sure it was "your apartment"?I would at this point deny it,because in this case honesty is not the best policy,I'm just am kind of worried what kind of guy the taxi driver is.Maybe you should call the owner of the taxi cab service and explain your situation and the fact that he drove you all over creation, and see if they will settle on taking half the fair, because you don't want any recourse from some crazy, mean, angry taxi cab driver, who knows where you live.

He may let it go or may have put a report to the police. If he did the second, chances are the cops will come and knock or call you or visit you at your place of work. If lucky, they'll only ask you to pay the fare.

You'll go to jail.

He'll contact the landlord and get the information that way. Then you'll receive a note in the mail for you to show up to court one day...

Bring a toothbruth. They don't actually provide them in jail.
