She said: “Find a business that nobody else wants to do because it requires work (like a carpet cleaning business) and you will always have work and be profitable”.

Easy ... dirty carpets. I'm not kidding. The biggest problem with small start up businesses is that they haven't thought out how they will get customers. The idea for the business is easy. Gathering everything need is easy. But, before you go too far, put together a marketing plan, and be very specific.
