Especially wealthy/upper middleclass teens? I always hear people referring to what 'blacks call themselves' when there is no way they could possibly know what black culture is really like when there is nothing but an illusion on television. Not just with blacks but with plenty of other races. For one, people should just turn off their televisions and learn the truth about things.

What the hell is your question?

I did.

I was telling people this about two weeks ago when everyone was discussing what Don Imus said.

I was trying to explain that this is why it is difficult for black women to police what is being said now "on the mic".

People think it is more authentic to hear negative things (crime, sex, name calling, "beefing" with other rappers). This goes back to how people think of black people, in general.

If you notice on TV if there is a sexy commercial or scene, they will use blues riffs or jazz...

During one scandal not too long ago, there was an article in the paper (finally) about how black women go to clubs and other people think they are sleazy and such.

People everywhere think of black people as lazy, suspicious, oversexed and violent. Oh and stupid.

It is the way things are. In the late 80s and early 90s, when hip hop had a power vibe, it didn't sell as well among other populations around the world. This is why record companies (the real villains here, not the teens and such) pushed that out.

Well, also, there is an element in black America that is very very negative, especially in the last 20 years. And there is always a spotlight on it.

Prime example: the attention of the Michael Jackson mess (he should be in jail by the way) versus all the stuff Denzel has done for kids and the troops. No attention whatsoever...

It is sad, but our people need to do better and show people, just like our parents, grand parents, and great grand parents did, who we REALLY are.

Have a good day sir. You have restored my faith in humanity.

That's bullshit. When it comes down to the sheer numbers of who buys what, you have to look at the percentages. I know that out of all white people, there's no way in hell that a higher percentage of them are buying rap and hip hop music than are the percentage of black/latin/etc people.
How many black people do you personally know that have this music? Everywhere I go, on the bus, train, in the park, wherever, it's blacks and latins blasting rap and hip hop. Go to a hip hop club. While you will see whites and others there, the overwhelming majority is black.

I hear black people (and latinos) calling each other n****r every single day. What does a white person buying a rap CD have to do with any of that? Hm? Please explain.

Also...to suggest that others have control over what you decide to put on paper when you decide to write a song is ludicrous. Once again, this is just the same old blame shifting and finger pointing that many black people doing ill shyt tend to fall back on. (that doesn' mean every black person, of course)
You write what comes out of your own head...no one is standing there with a gun saying "be sure to say 'bitches and hoes', 'kill these motherfuckers', and don't forget to say 'n****r' at least 100 times on the entire CD. or you'll die."
I mean, really.

What you do and decide to create is on YOU, not some consumer in Iowa. These rappers KNOW what the hell they're saying when they say it, and THEY are responsible for that. They are responsible for the messages they put out, the images they portray in the media, and the lifestyles they choose to live. Not white people.

Anything else is just a bunch of crap!

That's true! Look at Coolio. He won rapper of the year at the Soul Train Awards, in 95 or 96 and he was booed.

Like Queen latifah said, for every rapper there are about 200 to 250 black fans and the rest are white people. There's nothing wrong with that!

I like moroon 5 and Seven Dust!

Go figure!

Don't believe the hype!

all human beings exploits somebody one way or yet another. maximum persons of rap track is being bought by utilising center type whites. White human beings have been exploiting women in all those magazines and pornos for years. for people who did not know Hiphop track is basically a contemplated image of what's happening in society, it would not paintings any incorrect way around.

The main purchasers of everything are white people. Why? Because there are so many more of them, at least here in the USA. Best wishes

That makes sense for the very reason that the American population is about 65% white so of course more whites listen to rap/hiphop. There are more of them.
