I think God's much smarter and much more powerful than to let his tiny helpless creatures kill HIM just so that He may forgive them....why couldn't He just forgive you all without having to go through the crucification!

A real God doesn't let people kill his "Only begotten son" ...a son that's really himself.

@ Yangsta: That's exactly my point. If God cares so much about you and He's intelligent , He could just forgive you. Why does he need to be killed in order to tell you that He cares.

I totally agree :)
That's why it's not true. It wasn't God's idea and it never happened.

Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. Jesus dealt with many of the trials of the men of the that day and age yet stayed pure and untainted. His dying on the Cross (which was a punishment meant for criminals) while having that purity was the ultimate sacrifice. Before this a person had to kill a ram for their sins to be forgiven and this had to be done by a priest. Now it is possible for every person to repent and to be cleansed by His Holy Spirit.

You have the wrong idea. For almost forever.....most cultures sacrificed blood to honor God or to atone for sin. The Jews used animals. Some Pacific Islanders sacrificed virgins in the volcano. Thus. the constant sacrifice is now taken care of the son of God, who was part human and part God. It is the final sacrifice. No one ever has to do it again.
The Jews were looking for an earthly king when in fact the messiah they were looking for and still do, didn't realize that the messiah was a spiritual messiah. There are Christian Jews. They are awsome.
The cross on which Christ died is the end all to suffering and shedding of blood for the forgivness of sin.

well, lets see. I guess you haven't read the bible. He let his people kill him, because dying for other people symbolizes the ultimate sacrific to the human race. The ultimate love is to die for the other person. Also, his followers didn't kill him, so It was to show that even people that hate him, can e forgiven if they choose. If you can forgive someone for killing you, then hey, you can about get over anything. As far as god being creative, well, be thankful for his simplicity, thats obviously how you got here.

It was Jesus who died on the cross for our sins.......and besides, we are not supposed to question God's decision on why he does what he does. We are supposed to accept it and live by God's law.
If you read the Bible you will have better understanding of God and his plan.
EX: John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

That's a great question!
Jesus wasn't the son of God and therefore his murder was not the murder of God.
Jesus was a human. A prophet sent by God to teach people about monotheism. He was killed because people didn't agree with his teachings. He wasn't killed so that people's sins would be forgiven.
Your answer is in Islam.

The fact that we're still talking about what he did 2007 years after the fact should answer your question. To give one's life to save another is the ultimate act of sacrifice. What better example of goodness is there?

it also lines up better with the words of Jesus (according to the bible). You'll notice his preaching mosty revolves around repentance. when he was sending out his disciples to preach the gospel (before they say he was crucified), what exactly were they preaching?- Islam, of course!
