yours is a good question no doubt. the sad part is i can't tell you but I am guessing you find a much bigger response in the religious category than in the philosophy category.

The Bible teaches that the soul basically has two meanings. Thus soul on occasion is used to refer to the life of the person. (1)
Next, soul refers to the totality that makes up a person -- the whole person.

Any larger animal in which blood courses its vein may also be referred to as a soul. The restriction in size is not specified.

You are the being, the soul inside the body. Both exist. When the body dies, your soul leaves the body & lives on in the afterlife forever.

The major difference is that the body can and does die.
The Soul however, lives on.

are bodys are a shell to contain the soul, and once our bodies die, our soul goes back to GOD, untill judgement day something we are all going to see.
