The best price for a battery i've found is at Autozone. Ask for their Duralast 49-DL battery. They might not have this battery listed to fit in a BMW, but it is well known to be a perfect fit. The cost is about $70. This is much less than the BMW dealer price of $150-$200 for a replacement battery. The Duralast battery also has a higher CCA so is a better battery than the dealership replacements. Make sure you get the vent tube and hook it up as you don't want acidic fumes in your trunk.

Good luck!

First, go to your dealer and find out how much it would cost. If you have a BMW car club membership, you normally get 10% off. But many times, that would still be expensive from the dealer.

Consumer reports rated a bunch of batteries a while ago. Surprisingly, some Walmart (Everlast) batteries came up better when compared to other more established brands. But they may not have the size you need (check it first - if they do, you'll save a LOT).

Google "Consumer report car batteries". You'll learn there're only 3 battery manufacturers in the US from the article.

Die-hard (Sear's brand) has batteries that would fit many European cars. But they are not cheap (probably close to your dealer's price). So try others (like Autozone's Duralast) first.

Online is NOT a good option due to the weight of the battery. Shipping charges would go through the roof!

You do NOT want to buy a car battery on-line. The shipping costs would be a fortune even if it were not necessary to have special handling because of the acid content. See your local parts dealer.

the price is high, I bought my e36 for 800.00, I would run some fuel system cleaner through it, clean the idle air control valve, change the fuel filter, I have 188k on my car and it runs strong, the inline 6 bmw uses is a long lasting strong engine, if properly maintained. I would change the plugs also.

Go to Sears and buy a DieHard - forget about getting a battery on-line.
