You want to think this one through really carefully -- a lot of the advice you'll get is plain wrong and out of accordance with the facts.

If your friends are telling you that your moustache is not too heavy, do you really need to do anything? Most guys are OK about women with a slight moustache.

If you do decide you have to do something, then the answer isn't as simple as many people suggest.

Facial (and also body) hair on women comes about in the same way as on men because of

1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many

2) your body producing high levels of testosterone

The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.

Steer clear of bleaching -- when someone sees you against the light you'll look as if you have a glowing moustache and/or beard.

As far as removing it is concerned it's worth remembering that

* Waxing, plucking, threading, epilating all pull the hair out by the roots and where the growth is hormonally-driven can actually stimulate a dormant follicle into producing more hair quicker. They also distort the root if done repeatedly, leading to hair growing at strange angles. And you've got to let the hair grow to quite a length before you can repeat the exercise. It can also damage the skin and discolor it. Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles.

* Chemical depilatories strong enough to remove the hair are very likely to burn the skin, cause swelling and cause long-term discoloration of the skin.

* Laser is also liable to cause burning and discoloration and in any case only works effectively on a dark hair/light skin combinantion.

* Electrolysis is very liable to cause scarring and discoloration of the skin.

Which, like it or not, leaves shaving which does not damage the skin. Best done with a men's-style electric razor, the best of which, for women, are probably those from the men's range of Norelco razors (Philishave outside the US). Most women who try a men's Norelco wonder why nobody ever told them about it before.

DO NOT CONTINUE TO SHAVE IT!

It is completely true that it will come back darker and thicker. Just like when you cut your hair. If you keep cutting your hair... it will grow faster.

If you are really self contious about it.... consider permenant hair removal by laser. it is expensive... but your self esteem is worth it.

Otherwise... you can wax or use hair remover. If you use a hair remover (my recommendation).... use a formula specifically for your face. AND ALWAYS MOISTURIZE RIGHT AFTERWARDS. Any formula other than for facial will be much to harsh for the delicate facial skin and may end up causing a chemical burn.

I would not recommend bleach. If you have a lot of hair on your lip... you will just have a blonde mustache. If you have anything other than alabaster toned skin... it may be too obvious.

Just my recommendation

The best is laser hair removal. It's about $75 a session and you need like 4 or 5 sessions, but over the course of a lifetime of not paying to wax and the increased confidence of little to no visible hair it's worth it. That said, you should research it cuz certain hormonal changes may cause regrowth later in life. Waxing too thins the hair out and lasts for weeks.

First: your hair doesn't get thicker when you shave it. This is a myth. Your moustache would've gotten darker irrespective of whether you shaved it or not, so don't blame yourself.

Bleaching doesn't work. You still have a moustache, but now it's blonde. Waxing is effective, but the most permanent solution is laser hair removal. It takes a few treatments, but in many cases the hair never grows back.

Try getting it waxed or buying creme hair remover from Rite Aid or Walgreens. The waxing should be done by a professional. The creme hair remover is usually left on for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinsed off.

Wax it. This is really easy to do at home, it lasts for up to 8 weeks and it makes the hair come back thinner instead of darker. Get Sally Hansen Wax Strip Kit. It's the best, I use it on my upper lip and eyebrows.

Do a search online for deplitatory creams. These help alot but be sure that if you have very sensitve skin you read all indications! Also you might want to try getting help at a salone the first one or two times before you try anything at home. Getting it waxed doesnt cost that much,

Bleaching will just turn it orange. I would shave until I could afford laser removal. Shaving doesn't cause hair to become thicker or darker, just feels blunt on the end.

"Bleaching doesn't work. You still have a moustache, but now it's blonde." LOLOLOL.

srry, i was reading the comments and ya. i suggest, like everyone else, to wax it or to get it laser removed. or just pluck it off with a tweezer. and yes, it is a myth that it grows back darker. not darker, just faster.
