If you look at Yao Ming, the guy is a beast. Standing at 7'6 300 lbs, the guy is very strong and fast for his height. You add his sweet mid range that he has, and this guy is hard to guarded.
Now you have this new kid coming in the 2007 Draft. Yi Jianlian is being compared to Dirk and KG, meaning very tall, fast, and hits the jumpers.

Yao's parents were both Chinese basketball stars, and "love" brought them together, and made the ultimate basketball baby.

Now Yao Ming is "dating" Ye Li, a center for the Chinese women's national basketball team, at 6'3 .

The theory is interesting, but I do not believe that scientific experiments are being made. My two arguments are thus.
1. It is not unusual, even in the U.S., for marriages of convenience to bring together two individuals, such as Yao's parents, and his current relationship.
2. It is not guaranteed that the child of two athletes will be an excellent athlete. Just take Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jr., who, to my knowledge, did not make it far in the NBA.
3. With so much genetic potential, they're evidently not trying very hard. The soccer team fails to make the cut year after year, and the superstars are inadequate to carry the Chinese basketball team to victory in the Olympics.
Perhaps your theory will be more valid if an Olympic, or some other major victory occurs soon in ANY of the major sports (baseball, b-ball, football). Otherwise, unfortunately, it is mere speculation.
F.Y.I.: I am a proud Chinese. Thus, I probably have some bias...as you can see.
