Is there a way to make it so that when you dial a number, it won't show the number you dialed on the phone bill? For instance, if I made a call to Indiana and I don't want it to show up on the bill, is there a way to prevent that?

Bottom line answer.... NOPE.

the only way to avoid that is to use a third party dialing card.

1) You buy the card with x minutes of time
2) You dial the 800 number
3) You dial in the card number and then the password for the card
4) You dial your number in Indiana ..

YOUR phone will only show the 800 number as being called.

BUT.. somewhere at that phone card company, there is a record of a call from YOUR phone being connected with that indiana phone..

Of course if you place the call from a pay phone then the record is moot.

A remaining option is to purchase a paid cell phone. You do not have to register those with your name and so on.. make your call and throw away the phone.

presto... no record.

The only way would be to not get a bill. Get a pre paid plan.

With Cingular you can....you would just call in and have detailed billing taken off of your bill. Keep in mind, there would be NO calls listed, but that's with Cingular. Not sure about other carriers...
