I live in washington state, A girl that I have known since she was 4 years old is wanting me to raise her 2 youngest sons because she is pregnant with her 4th child and is unable to care for any of them. The missouri family services is not involved with her. She is on state help though. She wants to voluntarily relinquish her parental rights to me. I honestly don't know where to start, or what I'm going to have to do or show the state if anything. Any ideas on where to look for information reguarding this issue?

Contact an attorney near you who specializes in Domestic Relations and Family Law. Yes, it can be done. Yes, you will have to have a "home study" done by your local DHS, or equivalent. Don't attempt to do this without an attorney!!! Also, you do NOT have to adopt the children. You can be appointed Custodial Guardian by the court, through either a private action or a public action. Talk to an attorney.

Adoption is the proper procedure for you to assume custody and responsiblity over the children. The mother must consent to the adoption in order to be valid.
