If we only had one political party, the American voters would actually have to vote for the best qualified candidate, and that would mean each voter would have to listen to each candidate to determine which one would be best for the job and I really can't speculate how many voters would actually do that, but it sure would make election day a lot more interesting. No more "Red" and "Blue" states? The reporters would be lost and wouldn't know what to predict. Maybe we should try it, sounds like fun and much more fair.

The two party system is not going to go away.
It is good to have different views & opinions. The two party system provides for methods within each party to change the leadership, ideas, policies and political platform.
I think the two parties are too close as it is. The Republican party is not as conservative as it should be or use to be. The Democrat party has moved way to the left and pulled the Republicans left so now they are in the middle. We have not true conservative party, at least no true conservative leadership within the Republican party.
If people want one party to change and move in a different direction they can make that happen by participating in their local BPOU (Basic Political Organizational Unit), campaign for the candidates they agree with, donate, run for office yourself, etc.
The different parties have platforms that are written out and this is what each party is suppose to stand for. Unfortunately, the people elected often forget about their party platforms and thus must be reminded by the people from time to time.

One political party? That might sound like a good idea. But democracy thrives on opposition and argument. There's obviously much more finger pointing and divisions within our current government but without it things would be VERY interesting and not for long! Take a look at China. . .Vietnam. . . .North Korea. One political party, one leader no dissent. The people don't have a voice when the government controls itself.

In fact, George Washington hated political parties, he thought it would tear our Country apart because of all the competition. When you think about it, it is. You see the bumper stickers etc.. People think one is better than the other. This Country would be so much better if we had 1 political party, with no name. haha

We would die from boredom because we would not be able to talk politics. It is fun to talk politics; that is why it is a major subject. It is our right to debate, and we do a very good job on it. Come on, you know you like politics, just admit it, I won't tell anyone. LOL.
