The Ring.

Yikes, makes me afraid again just to recall it. I am ooold, and that was the scariest movie I'd ever seen. I don't go for horror movies as a genre and haven't seen that many--maybe The Ring seems pedestrian to horror movie afficianados.

Now when I occasionally see women who resemble that girl (scary that many do!) I am COMPLETELY creeped out.

I saw a really poor quality bootleg version of The Blair Witch Project when there was that early myth about whether it might be real and in all honesty I was really scared for about a week's worth of nights afterward. That part with the kids voices outside of the tent and then the whole tent shaking violently really freaked me out bad.

Anyway I think the quality of the version I saw only made it seem more possible that the events in the film could've been real.

The Changeling, the 1979 ghost story starring George C. Scott--watched it on video at home, all alone---very effective, relying on sounds and atmosphere for most of its chills---I had to go downstairs to the basement after the film was over--caught my own reflection in one of the darkened windows out of the corner of my eye and just about went into a screaming panic--despite that memory, I recommend The Changeling as a superior scare film in the classic mold.

I avoid scary movies, but my sister acted like that after she saw "The Exorcist". She slept with the lights on for a few weeks.

The movie that freaked me out the most was "The Day After" about nuclear war.
