I replaced the tumbler because the key turned without any resistance. It would require a little more force to turn the key to the start position and then after starting it would just move into the run position. Now the key turns freely all the way through the start position and doesnt start the truck and does not go back to the run position either. Is there something in the steering collum that the tumbler should activate to start the truck?

Can you remove the coil wire from the solenoid and activate it with a jumper wire? If so then you probably have an open wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid. If by "jumpering" you mean you're going across the battery connection post to the starter post side of the solenoid then you're not checking the solenoid you're just bypassing it. If that's the case, the solenoid itself may be bad. Remove the small coil wire that is closest to the battery lead and use a seperate wire to jumper it to the battery. If the starter cranks then the solenoid is good. The solenoid ground is obtained through the bolts to the fender apron. The second "coil" lead, the one on the starter side of the solenoid, goes to the coil to provide a full 12 volts during starting. Once the engine is running the coil receives 6 volts through a resistance wire from the ignition switch.

On that starter is a skinny twine that is going to the ignition gadget. now and lower back that twine being close to to the exhaust pipes burn via and shorts out if no longer secured. What I did with mine is to get rid of that twine and upload an extension to it and run it each of how directly to the helpful submit of the battery. That way it by no ability is going close to the nice and cozy exhaust. That skinny twine is likewise what factors the solenoid the kick it needs to coach over the starter. you could bypass under the truck and employing a screw driving force touch the heavy cable touch on the starter coming down from the battery and quickly touch the smaller twine touch. it is going to turn over.

I don't know why you changed the tumbler?

More than likely your neutral safety switch, or starter solenoid is bad.
