Yes for what is measured, not necessarily an exact match. Purple and pink are equally colors, but one is not the same at the other in appearance.

It depends how are you are applying it, but in political philosophy, it most certainly does not...there was a reason the preamble to the constitution begins with "all men are created equal" not "...all created the same"...equal in the sense that no one is above the other as far as rights or special rights...That having been said, we are born with unique genes and we all go through unique experiences with our differents tastes and preferences...so in no sense are we the same...the same could be applied to the civil rights movement, the women's movements, as someone else mentioned...all sought equality in the sense of equality before the law and equality of opportunity but certainly not sameness in the sense of personality, culture, or customs

NO, and this is what nobody understands. Men and Women are equal but are not the same. Two different people can be equally talented but in different talents. This is where political correctness stems from; People take "All men are created equal" and interpret it to mean that all men are created exactly the same.

'equal' is not really the equivalent to 'same'. 'Equal' can be replaced with 'materially equivalent' while the same cannot be said of 'the same'. 'The same' implies a greater degree of similarity than 'equal'. You might say that men and women are 'equal' but that god they are not the same. Equality is a qualitative statement whereas similarity is a quantitative statement.
