Today we were out working in the yard and we killed a snake, it was in a pile of old wood, in an overgrown field, out in the country. The snake was a dark grey color on top but on the bottom it faded from a bright red to bright orange and then to a bright yellow. It may have had tiny black spots on the underside- along with the coloring- we cant remember for sure. We have no idea what kind of snake this is. Anyone know? Is it poisonous?

charcoal grey to black on top, yellow/orange/red belly, small red, yellow, or orange ring around the neck is a ringneck snake, probably no bigger than 20 inches (and that's quite large) These snakes are completely harmless unless you are ant larvae, termites, millipedes, earthworms, etc. Please buy a field guide to your native snakes rather than killing things just because you know nothing about them.

Ignorance does no good for anyone.

Try matching an okeetee corn snake image with the snake that you saw in your yard.
