It is called colony collapse disorder and one Possible cause is cell phones. The radio waves of the cell phones are at a similiar frequency to the transmissions bees use to communicate with their hive. The the interference from the cell phone frequencies, they cannot tell the hive where the flowers are and they cannot navigate back to the hive.
This is theory at this point and is something I am concerned about as well.

If it is an isolated area only, then its probably the echo system affected in that area somehow.
Pesticides man made etc...
If it were a climate event, then it would only
affect them over more open areas of where the climate has significantly changed.
Extreme temperature variations may have
caught them off guard at some point and
maybe threw off their so called body clocks,
or caused surrounding plant to think its an
early spring emitting something that attracted the bees at the wrong time of the year leaving them vulnerable to the elements of extreme temperature variations.
Here in south Texas there are still reports of bee attacks here and there.
The temperature here has been extreme but within 30 degree fluctuations through the winter.Say 43 to 73 degrees.

I recently saw a documentary on television about the vanishing bee problem.........scientists interviewed are wondering if the growing use of cell phones is causing confusion with the bees "radar" and interfering with their ability to find their way back to their hives. I don't think it's just limited to Ontario/Canada b/c the show was coming from the U.S.

No it seems to be a major concern throughout the U.S..
I saw the bee report on public television on my local channel (near Chicago). It was entitled "No bees in the box". The Southern states are seeing a similar pattern and as warmer weather has begun to hit the Midwest we're starting to see the same results. My cousins have a bee box and the bees are no where to be found. Scientists are still guessing as to the cause but they believe at this point some sort of disease was spread throughout the colonies.

There are several factors involved I am sure. Destruction of habitat, pesticides in the air and water which kill bees. I don't think Africanized bees are a problem that far north. Recent studies seem to indicate that bees get confused by the radiation created by the use of so many cell phones.

Not isolated to Ontario , google it and you'll get lots of different places dealing with it .
It is all over Canada and the US .
They are calling it CCD , "Colony Collapse Disorder," .

If you combine the Australian drought (they might be cutting off irrigation to the farms so the city people will have enough drinking water) ,
So they will need to import large quantities of food ,
With the bee problem
There will be a huge crop disruption with the bee disappearance ( I heard about 70% loss in the US) .
Then you are going to have issues (as in serious)

Hopefully , someone comes up with a pollenation alternative soon !

Excellent link from agameo , thanx . . .

Go to www.truthout.org and type bees, then search TO. There are 103 articles on bees...and the problem is international, so far occurring in the US, Canada, and Germany that I recall, and undoubtedly elsewhere, too.

His so called "environmental policies" are hurting the environment, so how can you say he isn't the cause for the bees dying? Bush is a war monger that only cares about money. Let's see what you say when your food supply runs out.

Latest report seems to suggest it is connected to the microwave towers used to transmit phone signals to cell phones.

So every time you make a call, you may be contributing to the crisis
