No. Each system is set up for a different energy output and tube diameter. On the hood and on the fluorescent tube, you'll find a number beginning with a letter T (T5,T8, T10, T12) - you'll need to have these numbers match or you'll be replacing more than just the tube!

I wouldn't recommend it. VHO stands for Very High Output. So if you use regular aquarium bulbs, you might go over the max on your standard bulbs and can be highly risky.

No you can't. And even if you could, why would you want to? Wouldn't that totally defeat the purpose?
