haha, don't worry. I LOVE video game soundtracks (of the few games that I play) and yes, it IS music too.
You have to understand that listening to video game music isn't mainstream. AT ALL. In our culture, we're so wrapped up in the Akon and My Chemical Romance that listening to anything else comes off as weird to people. What's on MTV, VH1, and other pop culture shows is what's going to be what most people are talking about, since most people like to conform anyway (you know, people want to look cool and fit in these days, so they have to like what everyone else is liking or else they're afraid to be seen as different, which is *apparantly* bad.) But be a non-conformist! Nothing wrong with that :) if anything it just makes you cooler (haha)
If you don't want to sound so awkward, find out the composer of the music and just mention his/her name instead. (that's what I do!) That way you won't have to say "uh, I like music from this game." People will probably just brush it off anyway, or just say "Oh, never heard of him."

It's not weird at all.
Most *good* video game music is actually better than some of the formulaic commercial pop music out there.
There are also some brilliant Japanese video game music makers, namely Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series) and Yoko Kanno (Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, etc) whose works are really jaw-dropping.
As for scene-specific music in movies or games, it's not hard to see why you might like them. They remind you of your favourite scenes because each time you hear them, the feelings evoked by your favourite scene are activated again (imagery and emotions), allowing you to "relive" the moment(s) you loved in the movie or game. This is called cognitive association.
Many people appreciate background music; there's nothing abnormal or weird about that. Everyone has different tastes and preferences - it's what makes the world such a varied and diverse place. There's nothing to be ashamed of or feel strange about.

Some people like rap, some people like country, and some people like soundtracks. It's not weird at all. My music library is composed of almost nothing but soundtracks. The only non-soundtrack music I have are church hymns. In fact, two of my favorite websites are devoted entirely to video game music! (vgmusic.com and zreomusic.com)
BTW... If you like Zelda music, you should definitely check out http://www.zreomusic.com

Because most people don't see this as "music."
People see video game and movie soundtracks as just a background to whatever they are playing or watching.
I for one love video game and movie music and I understand full where you are coming from. But I also like other stuff too.
Also, you're probably asking a lot of people who like popular stuff like 50 Cent and Queen.

say what gener or artists of the songs on the soundtrack are. Its not so much the fact that you listen to those, its the way you are saying it. When people ask that they are expecting, rock, rap, country or you to say some kind of gener or artist.
movie and game soundtracks are music and its not wierd, listening to them is normal, ONLY listening to them is not that normal, but theres nothing wrong with it.

well I used to listen to a lot of video-game music, I have about 250-300mb worth of MIDI files/a couple of mp3's from various games.
I did that for about 5 or so years, then I started liking one or two bands, and I only really listen to one certain band now.
I liked the in-game music because I never really liked the singing.
