Alot of people enjoy solitude but people seem to perciieve this as some sort of mentally deficient behavior like everytime there is a school shooting or serial killer people seem to note that the person kept to themselves. This may be true, but why do people think anyone who enjoys quiet and solitude as being crazy? Kids used to tease me in HS but when I failed to respond they started making jokes about me being some sort of "Columbine kid". Then teachers want to have you evaluated for doing nothing. Why aren't the kids who are perpertrating the harassment being disciplined instead? Yes they bother me but that doesn't mean I'd shoot up the place.

If you were bullying or teasing someone and they broke down and started crying for all to see, wouldn't you feel awkward?

There's nothing wrong with schools as far as society is concerned, but the bully and public schools have one goal in common: degradation of the individual. By enjoying solitude and quiet you are introducing doubt about the legitimacy of this enterprise: the pact of leaders and followers. For the true solitary there is no such politic! Fortunate few! Float down the stream like Jean Jacques...

Hell no, it doesn't mean your crazy! Dispite the friends I have, I enjoy solitude also. You can still be sane and enjoy solitude. One reason I can think of as to why they think silent are crazy is because they don't know what your thinking. Failed to respond?, these don't sound like the people you need to respond to in the first place. Your right, the people who harassed you or whoever is perpertrating the harrassment need to be disciplined, but since THEY weren't, that's how that shooting probably happened, when that guy got pissed. If you actually were to shoot up the school for the reasons you stated, that is definitely the teacher's fault for disciplining the wrong people. And some teachers KNOW they're disciplining the wrong people.

I don't know, I've been close friends with a few and have had the opposite problem. I take them seriously when they're being facetious and they in turn think that I'm strange because of it, and when they do in fact get angry or mean, I can't help but laugh at the verbal diarrhea that explodes from their mouth! One of my friends has a tendency of going to parties and just getting belligerent with some random person for no reason, and I egg him on because it's great comedy! He just lets them have it and they look absolutely perplexed by it while I die of laughter!

It's so nice to read a question like this! I actually posted a similar one. As long as you are sure that it's not depression driving you to want to be alone (that's why the teachers worry, they're not trying to punish you), there's nothing wrong with it. But yes, people are ridiculous about it. I've come out as a lesbian and as somebody who likes to be alone. I get a lot more guff for the latter!
Make sure you don't have any other symptoms of depression, just to be sure, then rest assured that you are not "alone" in wanting to be alone, and tell them to stop bugging you about it!

I hear you. I've often been accused of enjoying my own company too much. I see nothing wrong with it. I'm happy with who I am and don't need to be around others to feel like I'm worthy mostly because I think most people are wearing masks and not really being honest. I have no time to waste with bogus conversations and pretentiousness.

I think it's normal to enjoy solitude every once-in-a while and people shouldnt be called crazy just because of it. But at the same time, it's not normal to go around shooting people just because they make fun of you because you should know ur just better than them because they are the ones who need to make fun of people to make themselves look better.

I get along with people, but I do like my solitude. I have to get away from the clang and clatter of people from time to time.

People like to single out other people who are different from them. That's the way it goes for everything. Anyone who is different is subject to abuse and scrutiny.
