I am trying to set up a wireless printer to my network. I have a netgear wireless router. The wireless printer set up asked me for my SSID, which I knew. It then asked for the password so it could get on the network. I dont remember how to get that password. Any ideas?

Thanks (i'm writing this for my computer challenged dad, so sorry for the lack of details)

log on the router from a wired connection (open your browser and point to to http://192.168.1.1) and check the wep configuration from there.

The correct way to do this is to go to start/run and type cmd and enter. Then type ipconfig and enter. The bottom number is the default gateway (router) IP address. type this number in the browser address bar, you wil reach the admin login. The password will be whatever you set, or the default, some default to admin, most others are empty. You may remember. If this model has a blank user name, some of those used Admin, the capital A is critical. If you get in the security section will either show the password or have a button to turn on showing. If you can not see it, set a new password, it will mean setting the passwords again on the other machines, but it will get you working. If you can not get through the admin login, you need to reset the router by pressing the tiny switch on the back. Before you do this, make sure you have the ISP details, you will have cleared these too.

You might have to login and reset the WEP. Of course this will require you to reenter the WEP on all your machines.

P.S. I own a Netgear router and this is the only way I have been able to do it. After the WEP key is issued the original time, it does not display it again. That's the way it is on my router and I assume other Netgear routers are the same.

WEP key is aviable on your router. If you have issues connecting to that via wireless, plug in a network cable, go to the web interface (usually the url is http://192.168.1.1 but it can end also with .0.1).
admin is the user name, and password is the password. Then get into wireless security. With a bit of luck, the key is not obscured with asterisks, but in clear.

what you are asking for is impossible...the password is encrypted and is not stored in any readable format. if you don't want to log into the router for whatever reason you have and you don't want to reset the router then you might as well shut it off. network security is designed for a reason, so it's NOT easy or in this case even possible to do such things...

reboot the router back to factory default settings...it takes 5 minutes

there is a reset button in the back, stick a stick pin on there for ten seconds and let go, youll just need to reset a new key and password.
the wep key is encrypted, so you can not guess what it is. i am guessing that most of the people that posted dont understand that you dont need the password to log into the router, but the wep key. just reset it, and then just go to each machine and reset the key. its easier to use tkip-make it simple for you dad to put the key in that he makes up. if he lives in a high risk area(war driver area) then when u get a chance to visit him and do it for him.
good luck
