I think relates to your other question about the black streaks. If you're getting bubbles that aren't popping soon after forming, it's an indication that there's waste (ammonia, protein) building up in your tank: http://www.aquariumfish.net/information/cloudy_water_p2.htm

Sounds like your fish are in need of a partial water change of 20-30% of the tank volume. Also, make sure the fish aren't being overfed. They should get what they can eat in about 2-3 minutes twice a day and no more.

The only exclusions I can think of to it being a water quality problem is if you have a male betta creating a bubble nest. OR you have just added something like MelaFix/PimaFix, but if your water is clean, those bubbles will go away within an hour at most.

Otherwise it is as others have said, toxicity to the water and you need to change some water. Get an API master test kit (fresh or salt water depending on what you have). ammonia and nitrite should always be 0, nitrates under 20 ppm.

goldfish should have at least 10 gal per fish, usually more. They are some of the highest waste producers, and over feeding increases it. Most goldfish get to 12" so need around 20 gal each. Some get to 24". You have to study for yourself and not believe us or even most 'salespeople' at the stores you buy from. http://www.petlibrary.com/goldfish/goldfish.html

Though you didn't say you have goldfish, so I don't know what other links to give you.

Check your PH level in the water?
Your Aquirium should have a balanced water and you should make sure it is kept up to par and your fish will live longer and healthier.

I'll pass a tip over to ya~! If you buy two dozen Minnows from the bait store and put them in your tank. You water will stay cleaner and less bacteria keeping all your fish healthy...this is a known fact!

When I had slime all the time on my filter it got annoying. Then one day I wanted to try something that I heard on T.V. during one of those documentary's about minnows keeping lakes clean and lowewr bacteria counts.

So I tried it in my tank and the slime went away./

Most Pet Shop owners that know this trick won' tell you so you come back and buy more products from them.

Please dont listen to cher68....you should NEVER add the water from the pet store to your aquarium. There is no point in it at all, all you are doing is increasing the chance of spreading disease to your other fish.
