Alot of the time the asker will pick and answer as the"best answer" even though it doesn't answer their question. Or the asker will pick a short rude or smart a_sed answer that has nothing to do with the question as the best answer. Finally, the point here is, if a person is asking a question to get truthful information, and that is your qenuine purpose, then pick the best answer that answers your question. Many of us don't want opinions we want the real answer to the question. For those of you that vote the "best answer" whereas, the answer has nothing to do with the question, you need to get a life. Finally, you must understand that many questions cannot be answered in one sentence or a small paragraph. It is simple though, if you don't like to read long answers don't. Skip over them and move onto another. Getting mad about a long answer simply shows your lack of wanting to find all the information to a question...ah maybe lazy.

I agree with you. A lot of these people are pig ignorant morons. But some, like me (I'm not a moron, obviously), are new here and haven't figured this out yet. I'm guessing that some people log in under two different names, answer their own stupid questions and vote for themselves too. Perhaps they think that's smart.

I think it's a mix of three things. Firstly, some people just don't want to face informed opinion or facts. having the choice of the truth and what some idiot put just to get 2 points, they'll pick the uninformed opinion and keep their eyes closed.

But secondly, answers are objective. You might not see what the person picked as the "right" answer, but perhaps it inspired them to think differently, or maybe it really did just answer their question. Short answers aren't always bad answers.

Lastly, perhaps they didn't get the answer they were looking for, and rather than let people vote on it, they just decided to pick the best fit, or the least rude answer, and be done with it. I have done that more than once when my question simply wasn't resolved, despite many answers, most of which were helpful. I had to pick the "least worst" choice.

Unless the information asked for is obscure or not easily found with google search( not in wiki), I assume what is being asked for is an opinion with evidence, because the issue is controversial, or a summery because many young people have trouble scanning and identify essential points in a long article. If an long answer is needed a reference with some essemtials is usually better. There are a lot of exceptions, some question are just looking for agreement or have a personal problems, others are meant as jokes, and some want you to write a 10 page paper for them. I try to avoid theses kind of question and give short answers most of the time, and give preference to short answers when voting.

in step with probability the guy(or persons) vote casting on the question/answer is the same individual(like the Sanjaya scandal on American Idol) only their regulate ego. I propose there are some that the questions asked and or solutions published are so close that purely a similar individual could have written them.and how vast of a issue is it to make up yet another alte ego.

They might be helping each other get more points. A friend asks and the other friend answers and vise versa. I know, it can sometimes be annoying. But there is nothing anyone can do about it.

They probably don't care about the answer itself, but the three points that come with picking the best answer.

i guess as its their question they have a right to choose whatever answer they feel they want as best answer. there is no rhyme or reason why, its totally up to the individual.
