It does no good to believe the false, so I would say finding the truth. The problem is, you can spend your whole life "investigating" alternate ideas. The possibilities, even idiotic ones, are endless.

However, be careful not to confuse "holding to beliefs" to be contrary to seeking truth. Holding to one's beliefs on things that can neither be proven nor disproven conclusively is not being closed minded. The belief that there is something more than just chemical reactions, action-and-reaction, extends into areas that are not scientific because they are not in the same field. It's like trying to use mathematics to explain why a leaf is green. I think a mistake that many have made is to believe that science can explain everything, and conversely, that if science cannot reproduce it by experiment, then it cannot be real. (I'm still waiting for someone to convert some lifeless matter in a test tube into a living, thriving being.)

The tone of your question suggests that "truth" and "beliefs" are exclusive, but life contains bits of both.

It depends on certain situations. I don't mean to be wishy-washy but sometimes finding out the truth is a good thing but at the same time it's better if one just doesn't know the truth. And the same goes with holding on to your beliefs.

Truth is a good thing because it takes one away from ignorance, which is also why it's not always goo to hold on to your beliefs. Once again it depends on what you believe in. If your ideas or totally full of ignorance then knowledge or truth is the best way to go.

Topics such as religion is where holding on to your beliefs is more important because in these cases, it's our faith that keeps us strong. It's what YOU believe in that matters the most . If you are resolute in your beliefs with religion then you don't have to listen to anyone else regarding what's the "right religion". Just follow your heart and your faith.

That's what I think...

Thank you for a very important question. Truth has always been the most important thing to me. When I was younger I would try to read the Bible and one day I Prayed " Dear Lord Jesus Where are you for all those years missing in the Bible. There are so many things that don't ring true to me in the bible. Kindly lead me to the unchangeable absolute truth." That week I went to Govindas' Restaurant and then to the Gift shop there. I asked them what was their main teachings. They gave me the Bhagavad Gita As it is BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- When I started reading it, it was like fireworks. Every question I ever had was answered page by page. Krishna says in the Gita "Whenever there is a decline in religious principals and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send my representative to reestablish the truth." I took up the process of self realization and following truth to the best of my ability. Later I found the Gospel of the Nazirenes which is the original New Testament before King Constantine changed and omitted so many things. I was so enlivened I could see the truth in that book as well. google gospelofthenazirenes.co Truth is truth and can not be changed. We can change our faith or religion but we can not change truth. For universal truths go to stephen-knapp.co or harekrishntemple.co You will be enlivened in truth.

One could never find all truth so belief is the glue to what one believes they support the other. Think about it I need both and one always believe what may or may not be true to another someone.

Definately finding out the truth. Lots of people would rather not find truth because they might not like it, they want to stay in their cozy little world where its nice and safe. I want to know the absolute raw truth about everything.

there is no need for holding on one's beliefs if they are subject to destruction by the light of truth. So why would one ever wish to hold one to old, oppressive and debilitating beliefs that can only hurt you, if there is knowledge readily available that could actually refute your beliefs?
Those people who prefer to hold onto their beliefs, they do not wish to progress in life. Thus they will stagnate and nothing will come from them. But those who choose gaining knowledge, they have to ability to progress, and further our human knowledge base. Those people dedicated to learning are the only true 'homo sapiens', they are the only 'wise men', for it is them who wish to advance learning, and it is them who wish to make our human race better. Those who retain their outdated beliefs are doomed to be disowned by humanity, as their existance, if it should even exist as they are only the huddling masses in one huge herd of one minded knowledge-haters, is completely futile and ridiculous.

I choose gaining knowledge.
