no, not really. One, you could be sarcastic and be like yeah...awesome. Two, if someone asks you "hey how are you?" you and the other person are obvioulsy not expecting "I'm sucky, my wife just left me for a 97 year old man (sorry if I offended anyone by this, it's just an example), I got fired and I have so many bills to pay! How about you?!?!"

It's just politeness. And a way to start a conversation I guess.

When I ask someone that, I don't really want an answer. I'm just trying to be polite.

well, i don't. sometimes i say great in a sarcastic way, but even if its not sarcastic, it doesnt make me feel better. that's just me. it could be different for other people.
