You need to be honest. Tell your immediate supervisor what is going on. If they are professional they will not tell others what is going on. The person below either didn't read your question fully or doesn't know FMLA rules. You have to be employed for at least 12 months and the company has to have at least 50 employees to qualify for FMLA.

If I were an employer where you'd worked only 2 weeks, there'd be no way I'd allow this. And certainly not if you wouldn't properly explain the emergency. Is there no way your wife can handle the emergency? If you're in training it's possible that you will be terminated if you miss time during the training period.

The only thing you can do is ask them. Don't make up something and have them find out. A lot of places are understanding if it is a true emergency. You dint have to tell everyone(tell them it is personal if they ask) but get with your supervisor or human resource person. They are suppose to keep it private.

Tell them its a personal emergency and you need to take some time off. You will probably not get paid, but you will still have your job when you get back.
