I have 2 desktop computers I would like to hook up with a wireless router. I am very ignorant to this subject so any help would be appreciated. I have a DSL modem hooked up to main computer and would like to hook up my old computer in my son's room. The main computer (and DSL modem) have ethernet connections but the older computer does not. I have seen the usb adapters, but do they work well. Is the wireless router and the adapter all I have to buy? Please help! thank you!!!

Prodigy should stick to recipes or something, total rubbish. All you need is the plain wireless router (no internal modem) and the wireless adaptors. The usb ones have the advantage that they can be placed high and away from the box, using a usb extension lead. Some of these come with an extension and stand. The router needs to be placed as high and clear of obstructions as possible for best performance. The instructions with the equipment are very clear, when you initially set up use the web browser method, not the disk. Always change the ssid name and wireless channel, these get you away from any others of the same router in the vicinity. Always set encryption, for your own protection.

yes, a router and pci adapter and wireless pci adapter.

to make sure everything goes smoothly i recommend have a pci card installed on your son's computer connected directly to the router and you can have the wireless pci. if your old computer is really not that old then it doesn't matter. make sure you follow the instructions like install cd first do not plug router or do not install hardware yet, etc etc...

Your first computer needs to have an extra network card.

The IP settings of Network card from the first computer should be 192.168.0.1. And set IP of the second computer 192.168.0.2 and gateway should be 192.168.0.1 then use crossover cable and connect two computers .

The first computer must have internet sharing enabled.
