The hard way - open it up and take a look. 168pins w/ 2 notches is sdram, 184 pins w/ 1 notch is ddr, 240 pins w/ 1 notch is ddr2.

The easy way - use CPUZ.

Every memory carrier has information on it - take a magnifier and look for the fine print. That should give you the frequency and makers name. As for the type, count the "pins" on the carrier - each type has a different pin count and positioning cutout.
