Yes it can and I will explain this to you why it becmes possible.
There are certain bacteria on the surface of your skin...one in particular called Streptococcus.
If this bacteria is present on the day you get a splinter in your skin or hand or foot...ect.....an infection will take place and in sopme instances you may not even know it is there and create what is called a staff infection.
If not treated properly, you can die within a few weeks of the intial stick.
So the answer to your question is yes, you could possibly die from just a splinter. Any open cut is what the bacteria love to get into.

Most of the time you're quite safe. However, it is remotely possible that you could get an infection from a splinter, and if an infection spreads to the bloodstream it can be fatal. If the area around where you got it becomes discolored or inflamed or starts hurting more than it should, you might want to have a look at it, but there's about a 99.999% chance you're not in danger.

well, a fairly large splinter torpedoed directly into the jugular could be fatal, a splinter that gets staph infection could conceivably be fatal without treatment, a poisoned splinter could be fatal, but other than these highly unlikely scenarios, no, a splinter will not kill you. Your dad's either pulling your leg, or he's under a grave misconception.

by splinter you mean a piece of wood or metal in your body right? if so there is a possibility that it can be fatal, but not because you lost too much blood or anything like that, but because the top of that splinter might have been infected or had some toxic chemical on it but its highly unlikely. I got a large piece of metal with mercury on the tip shoved in my skin once and im fine lol

i don't think you can die from just the splinter, unless the splinter ahd somekind of bacteria or virus on it, then to infect you. but as you said it's been a few months so there isn't really a danger about that happening so relax :) and your body should just get rid of it sooner or later, i've had a splinter in my hand for a while now, and it's slowly disapearing and doesn't hurt no more etc. your body should just get rid of it sooner or later, it will just disapear as i had on in my finger before, and it was there for a long time, and it eventually just went. Not sure if this helped but there you are :)

the only way a splinter can really harm you, is if you did not take it out and it got infected=then you didn't do anything about the infection you would become very sick==I have never heard of someone dying from a splinter

It would have to be a big splinter and you would have to be a vampire. kiddin'. Just clean the opening a couple times w/peroxide so it doesn't get infected. Only a bad infection could kill ya.

The place where the splinter went in could get infected.
Something toxic could leach out from the splinter in to your blood and make you sick.
That's it.

i dont think that a splinter can be fatal. He was probably just trying to scare you...parents have fun like that sometimes....like when they would say that if you ate a watermelon seed that a watermelon would grow in your tummy, and that was never true....but i am no doctor, this is just from my experience with my parents...I'm sure you will be fine....hope this helps...:)

if it was a big splinter that, say, went thru your face, yea, it might kill you, but not a little piece in the finger, unless it becomes infected and then all you do is cut off your finger. so no, it wont kill you, i promise
