if you plan on just driving the car...go tpi....it will have a smoother power band (and a more powerful one also), much torquier (spell check?) start better, (especially in the cold) and it will just have better driveability in general, but if you plan on putting on some power add ons, the carburetor will certainly be less painful to work with. the computer with the tpi will always need mods to accomidate and performance parts that will make any noticeable difference. For example, a larger cam would drive the computer crazy, it would go out of it's mind trying to mix the fuel correctly, resulting in a car that would barely run, and guzzle fuel, where as with the carb, you'd just mix the fuel a little heavier, and reset timing and idle mix adjustments, ba boom! good runner.....

The 350 tuned port is by far the best and you don't have to mess with that carb every year or so.

TPI will be higher performance for sure. Those long intake runners really help the engine breathe. In an '86 the carbureted engines were just the base model engine, and appeared in many sedans and light trucks. Only the F-bodies and Corvettes got the TPI.

the 350 is a bigger engine so naturaly it is going quicker an has extra potential. yet that still potential it makes use of extra gas. it has bigger pistons and longer connecting rods, additionally the heads are bigger an ported distinctive. those are the main important differances that i'm able to think of of. theres different stuff thats controlled electronicaly by making use of the computor. yet im to no longer good in that section. i know it is composed of stuff like timing and air/gas ratios and shift factors in the trans. desire i helped a lil bit. good success.

If you want a good dependable setup for the street and want decent gas mileage than go with the TPI, but if your looking for a weekend warrior and not worried about the mileage than go with the carbed motor because it is easyer to modify.
