Erm...no. First of all, they are pronounced completely differently. Bono is pronounced Bon-oh, whereas Sonny Bono is Bone-oh.
Secondly, Sonny Bono was American and Bono is Irish.
Bono, or Bono Vox, is Paul David Hewson's nickname. He acquired it as a teenager living in Dublin. Everybody in his group of friends had a nickname (i.e. Guggi and Gavin Friday). He got the name from a hearing aid store called Bono Vox on Earl Street North (off O'Connell Street) in Dublin. Incidentally, the company has since changed their name to Bona Vox!

Sonny Bono was the son of Italian immigrants who was a popular musician and television personality of the late 60s and early 70s. He then became a very well-respected Congressman in his later years.
Bono was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1960 as Paul David Hewson. He was nicknamed Bono Vox as a teenager, after a store on McConnell Street called Bonavox. The store sold hearing aids. Bono Vox is Latin for "good voice." After the band's second album "October" was released in 1981, he had dropped the Vox and just used the name Bono.

No. He is married with 4 kids. He's best friends with all the guys in the band. They've known each other since secondary school. ETA: I know being married with 4 kids isn't necessarily indicative of whether or not someone is gay, but Bono is DEFINITELY a ladies' man. He loves women; you can tell by the way he acts around them.

Yes. he's Sonny's illegitimite child. Cher is not his mom and when Bono (from U2) found out who his dad was he changed his name to Bono.
