Someone posted a question a little bit ago about a woman that left a 10 and 3 year old at home alone while she was at work and they've been kidnapped.
I'm not saying it's right to leave a 10 year old at home to take care of a three year old, but what if it was her only choice? They mentioned that there are 75 registered offenders in the area where the family lived and there were a few family members that could have been called to babysit, but what if those family members are busy or have jobs of their own? What if the woman was unaware of the number of offenders in her area? Not everyone has internet access or the means to find these things out.
There's no mention of Dad so he most likely is not involved or supportive and day care is expensive. Programs that offer free daycare fill up fast and then start turning people away.
Mom had hungry mouths to feed.
I'm sure nobody is blaming her any more right now than she is herself- Give the lady a break.

And to the people that answered with "If I didn't have a babysitter, I'd take it up with work" don't you think if she took it up with work, they'd fire her? Then she'd have no way to support her kids at all and they'd either starve or be taken into foster care and split up? It happens all the time.

I agree 100% with you. I guess she had to do what she had to do, you know some people do certain things for a reason even if they don't make any sense to us. I am sure it is hard being a single mother, having to work and not have any help. she probably is blaming herself so she doesn't need anyone else pointing fingers at her. I hope her children come home safe!!!!

I can understand her situation if she's struggling. And I understand that she probably didnt think anything would happen to her kids. But really it doesnt matter how many registered offenders were in her area. There are freaky people everywhere. And kids are supposed to be a parents #1 priority and are too precious to take chances with. There are plenty of programs out there to help struggling single moms such as WIC. And she could have applied for food stamps too. She really should have tried her hardest to find a babysitter and if she couldnt, it probly wouldnt have hurt to take one day off work. I do feel bad for her and I'm not saying shes a bad person either. But people should stop and think before they put their kids in a situation like that where they could get hurt, kidnapped, or killed. Anything could happen and it can happen to anyone.

Wow what a bad place to be. I know how she felt. First they yell "Get a job" then when you do you get yelled at because you are not home with your kids. I actually had the school call me at work and expect me to leave work and drive over a hour to bring my 12 year old dry socks because he jumped in a puddle on his way to school. They even called DCFS and filed a complaint! Sometimes you can't win or break even.

Wow that's one of those situations that really sucks. I really don't know what to say except that I feel bad for the woman who's kids were kidnapped. And you're right she probably feels bad enough abouth what happened and doesn't need anybody else chewing here ear off and telling her how wrong she was for doing what she did.

All I can say is, i`m glad I`m not in that situation. Everyone has an idea about what THEY would have done. But, guess what, THEY were not in that situation.
Sometimes when all you have are CRAPPY choices, you still have to make a choice. I`m sure she did what she thought was the best, even though it turned out badly.
Whatever happened to them???

I understand what she went through. When I was 10, my grandmother went back to Nigeria, so I was left home alone to care for my 5 year old twin sisters and my 5 month old baby sister. It made me grow up fast, but I don't resent my mom for it. The bills had to be paid

I cannot understand how some of you people think. When I met my second wife, she had two children. To give them a decent life and security, she and a long time friend of hers teamed up to care for the children. One got a day job, and one got a night job, so the kids always had at least one adult watching them. That situation and the love they both had for the kids, is what made me fall in love with her. We helped the other mother out until she could find another live in partner.

What I don't understand is why you mothers, when you get into a situation like that, don't try working together to solve your problem, rather than having your kids become wards of the state, or left with the awsome responsibility of caring for sisters and, or, brothers.

I agree with you if she had no support from any family or friends--and it was her job at stake--and she trusted her 10 year old to help out....then what could she have done?? I thought I had it hard taking care of my daughter WITH my husband....single moms have it hard--very hard.

That is a shame!States really need more programs to offer childcare assistance to people that can not afford it!!

that is a sad story and I think you have alot of good points.I do think she could have found someone to watch the kids, but If she couldn't then I think she should have called in to work and told them she wouldn't be in to work at all that day.
