I grew up in one of about 5 houses in a row that were built by a family of Swedish immigrants. Lots of woodwork...The wood work of the door frames and window sills had a smell when the sun would heat it up. I loved that smell. I would lay in the sunbeams and take naps.

That mildewy smell that is everywhere in England. It smells like a mixture of cheap soap and stale bread.
