It's a great place to check all your gear to insure everything is up to par. The last thing you need on a camping trip is to find something is in need of repair. It also gives you an opportunity to "air out" your bedding and tent. Spray a little Lysol or Febreze to freshen things up, unless you are heading for bear country like Yosemite. Don't want to attract them. If you are a first time camper, it affords the opportunity to get familiar with your gear. Either way, there is nothing wrong with trying it out in the back yard. Many have done it, few admit it though.Have a safe trip...

I use to go campin in my backyard but then it got really boring so I tryed the outdoors. It was really fun but make sure that you get a tent that is really strong so it won't fly away(bad times). Its almost like camping in your backyard so you should have fun and stuff like that.

No way. I live on a lake and my backyard is not grass. It's rutty and full of rocks. Also at night there's swarms of bugs and creatures like raccoons and skunks and who knows what else creeping around out there.

My back yard is the Sierra Navadas, and I work in Yosemite, so I sleep inside, and enjoy life daily.
